City of Fountains CrossFit to Open in Strawberry Hill, Grand Opening March 9, 2014
KCFitnessLink is proud to announce the grand opening of its City of Fountains CrossFit facility in Strawberry Hill of Kansas City, Kansas. The 2500 square foot facility will offer CrossFit classes, boot camp, youth sports conditioning programs and more. “City of Fountains is proud to be in a Wyandotte County, a county that has ranked lower compared to other Kansas counties on health outcomes and measures like mortality, morbidity and poor physical/mental well-being. One of my aims in opening this CrossFit facility here is to bring health back to the community,” says Darryl Olive owner and director.
CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program that employs constantly varied, functional movements, done at high intensity. The CrossFit class focuses on the Workout of the Day (WOD), which are modified to each person’s fitness level and performed at the highest intensity that the individual can sustain with good form and proper technique.
By using multi-joint movements (squats, deadlifts, and presses), Olympic movements (cleans and snatches) and bodyweight movements (pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups), CrossFit is a great way to get in shape, improve performance and maintain the ability to perform activities of daily living. It’s also fun and very humbling. CrossFit is also a sport. Since its inception in 2007, CrossFit has become one of the fastest growing sports according to Forbes with regional and national games.
“I’ve been in the fitness industry for 15+ years, and CrossFit is one of the most exciting changes. Fitness fads come and go, but CrossFit has proven itself as an open source fitness community that shares ideas about true fitness. It has brought classic Olympic weight lifting and powerlifting to the masses, and most importantly to women. It has fueled economic growth of small fitness business even during a stagnant economy and it has pushed group fitness beyond just attending class to a sense of belonging to a community,” says Darryl. It’s also modern and convenient. Workouts are just 20-30 minutes! Now, who doesn’t have time for that?,” says Darryl.
CrossFit has become the new model for law enforcement agencies nationally to prepare police and other emergency responders for general fitness requirements needed for the working environment. It has proven a successful model in reducing injuries in many agencies. Even businesses can benefit from the team building and camaraderie experience in a given class.

CrossFit’s mission is to fuel a revolution in fitness based on the pursuit of function, not form — on measurements of performance, not anatomy. We want rings and bumper plates in our gyms, not machines. We believe that where you train is less important than how you train and whom you train with matters more than what gear you have. We know this can be done anywhere. CrossFit is also a community of more than 4,500 affiliate gyms worldwide. Those are all local, small businesses that share the philosophies of CrossFit and legally license the CrossFit name.
